Besides an open floor plan at the top of our dream house list, we have a white kitchen as something we would like. Again, most houses have natural wood kitchens which are great but not exactly what we want.
One of the things we look forward to doing when we get back is buying a home. We have a list of wants/needs and right at the top of the list is an open floor plan. Our current house is an open floor plan and it works great for us. In fact, if we could build a house similar to this one we would be happy campers. As I stated before, for fun we look at houses for sale in the cities we know are possibilities for us to move to. While spending hours searching through the Little Rock MLS for fun we ran across ONE newer house with an open floor plan. One. Can’t they just open an Air Force base elsewhere? I hear Minnesota is lovely. Pretty please?

My first experience with orange in the home was my grandma’s very 70′s orange kitchen counter tops, which were replaced a good ten years ago. Ever since we bought the orange box for the living room I’ve been noticing orange more and more in the home.

Everytime I see interiors with horses on the walls it makes me want to add this element to one of our walls. When I asked my mom what she thought of me putting a large horse picture up she thought I was crazy. I guess I’m crazy like the rest of these people:

How you can get the look for cheap(er):

I have had this image in my files for a really long time, so I was surprised to find out when I Googled “Chicago Interior Designers” one of the first names I clicked on – Kara Mann happened to be the designer.
Her interiors are very much something I would love in my house – full of texture, neutrals and drama.
While we aren’t the biggest fans of Greek/Roman columns in a house, we are big fans of arched doorways.
In a little over a year and a half our time in Germany will come to an end and we will be moving back to the States. Since his plane is not in many locations, we know we can only go to two places – Little Rock, AR and Abilene, TX. Because of this we have become real estate stalkers. When we first started looking at houses in Little Rock it became painfully obvious new houses were selling at the same price as fixer uppers. The older houses offer things a newer house cannot – established neighborhoods, quirks and charm something the new houses being built obviously lack. We came to the quick conclusion that we are new house people. This only makes sense since we will only be in one place for four years at a time and investing money in a house that we know we won’t be staying in long just doesn’t seem to make any sense. So, while searching through new houses we started to notice trends that came with every single house and we don’t necessarily mean that in a good way. Again, we realized we will want some sort of partially built house where we are able to pick the details so hopefully we won’t have to deal with the following…
Trend #1: Trayed ceilings. You will have to search far and wide to find a new/er construction without tray ceilings.
Trend #2 – Roman/Greek Columns. No thank you.
Trend #3 – 45 degree counter top/breakfast bars. These just scream awkward to me.
Trend #4 – Not large enough to fit a TV hole above the mantle.
Trend #5 – Over abuse of trim work and the lovely awkward opening above the mantle.
Trend #6 – Oiled fixtures in bathrooms
And last but not least – wood flooring, as seen in almost every picture seen above. This is a trend I am more than ok with.
